Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar Donetsk coach
It was an important win. Given that we are living, training and playing away from home, it's vital for the team to qualify for the knockout stage and play in the Champions League in spring. The result reflects what was happening on the pitch. Our win was well-deserved. The dismissal made our task easier but even with 11 v 11 we dominated the game.
I'm glad my players pushed until the final whistle and thanked the supporters who came to the stadium. The fans were great again. We are looking forward to the next game here and hope that the level of support will be the same. We know that it will be very difficult to finish first in the group. But we also know it gives big advantage for the last-16 draw so we want to achieve it.
BATE worked hard to close up spaces but they were unable to stop our players. Luiz Adriano and Douglas Costa were called up to Brazil national team and I think Alex Teixeira also deserves be there; Brazil need someone like him. I'm also satisfied with Ivan Ordets' debut, too. He started nervously but then played very well. We have always needed such tall and strong player.
Andriy Pyatov, Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper
This win is for our fans, I'm very grateful to them for coming to the stadium and supporting us so passionately. It was so great and comfortable to play here. We felt at one with the supporters and it was like playing home. Shakhtar set the biggest goals and we'll do our best to finish top of the group. The next two games will be very hard and we know that. But our goal is first place in the group.
Vyacheslav Shevchuk, Shakhtar Donetsk defender
We analysed them well; BATE are used to playing direct football, they also make a lot of pressure but don't have much of possession. We knew how to counter that. It wasn't easy because after matchday three everyone was talking about us winning the reverse fixture by a big margin. All our players kept focus and did what they were asked to. It's too early to relax; we have two important games ahead.
Aleksandr Yermakovich, BATE coach
It's really hard to play against team like that, and even harder to do it with ten men. We did our best but we have to admit that right now we fall a long way short of sides like Shakhtar. I can't tell who are stronger, Porto or Shakhtar. It's obvious that these two teams are of much higher level [than us] and they will compete for first place. There is no doubt that it will be Shakhtar and Porto who qualify for the next stage.
Anyway, we'll try to pick up points against Porto at home in the next match. We wanted to get something today as well but you saw what we had.
Aleksandr Volodko, BATE midfielder
Shakhtar have a great group of attacking players so it was very hard for us. We have to thank our goalkeeper, who made lots of saves else the result could have been much worse. Luiz Adriano was very good. We didn't try to mark him because you never know which of their players will be the most dangerous. But it was Adriano again; his finishing is impressive. We tried to play on the break but failed again.
We know our mistakes; these games are better to be forgotten as soon as possible. Now we will fight for the third place. I think we are capable [of qualifying to the UEFA Europa League round of 32]. We are not scared of anybody and we are eager to prove that we deserve to be in the Champions League.
