"It is a moment that all Madridistas are dreaming about – the 'décima'," said Cristiano Ronaldo, with anticipation reaching fever pitch in the Spanish capital ahead of the UEFA Champions League final. "We are all very excited, so we have to win."

It has already been a momentous year for the Portuguese forward, who has a scored a record 16 goals in the competition this season and collected the FIFA Ballon d'Or. Nevertheless, he is determined to cap his campaign in style by clinching a winners' medal in Lisbon. "It will be a special game. I will be playing in my home country," said the 29-year-old. "It is my first final with Real Madrid, so that will be special too and it will be against a great team, Atlético. They have had an amazing year. But we are going to try and win."

With the Merengues' pursuit of an elusive tenth title potentially reaching its climax, Ronaldo knows history can be written at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica. "It is a trophy we have been looking to win for many years. Real Madrid have wanted it for a long time. Since the first day we came here, we've felt that positive pressure to win the Champions League. We feel like we are now one small step away from winning."
