Excited for future
The Bayern captain's existing deal had been due to expire next summer but he was only too pleased to stay, especially after key players Sebastian Deisler and Lucio also made long-term commitments last week. "It makes it easier when world-class players agree to stay," Kahn said. "I have been feeling for a long time that something big is growing."
High level
Coach Felix Magath was happy to have secured Kahn's services until 30 June 2008, when he will be 39. "This is great," he said. "Oliver is in outstanding condition. He stands for stability and continuity and he is still able to play at a high level." Kahn remains Germany's No1 and Magath compared him to Dino Zoff, who won the 1982 FIFA World Cup with Italy aged 40.
Much success
Kahn has spent nearly 12 years at Bayern, having joined in 1994 from Karlsruher SC. In that time, he has claimed six championships and four German Cups. He was also part of the Bayern sides that lifted the UEFA Cup in 1996 and the UEFA Champions League in 2001 and has been named top goalkeeper four times at the UEFA Club Football Awards.
