Ashikodi glad of Rangers chance

Rangers FC manager Alex McLeish will hope Moses Ashikodi takes his chance to impress after handing the England Under-19 forward a short-term deal.

Youngest player
The England Under-19 striker started out at Millwall FC and became the London club's youngest player in 2003 at the age of 15 years and 240 days. He subsequently moved across the capital to West Ham United FC before a spell on loan at Gillingham FC, although Nigerian-born Ashikodi failed to shine at either side. However, he has impressed while on trial at Rangers to such an extent that manager Alex McLeish has offered him a six-month deal with the possibility of an extension.

Villarreal tie
Having represented Rangers reserves in a 2-1 victory against Motherwell FC last night, Ashikodi told the Glasgow team's website: "Everyone [in England] knows Rangers is a massive club and I am very proud to have signed until the end of the season. I want to give 110 per cent for Rangers." The Scottish champions will meet Villarreal CF in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
