Gomel go for Kuznetsov

Russian Aleksandr Kuznetsov has been named as the new coach of Belarussian champions FC Gomel.

Russian Aleksandr Kuznetsov has been named as the new coach of Belarussian champions FC Gomel.

Permanent successor
The 53-year-old has been named as the permanent successor to Sergei Podpaly who surprisingly parted company with the club last week. The club, currently lying sixth in the Belarussian league table, had been temporarily led by Podpaly's old assistant Nikolay Goriunov who presided over the 1-0 win at FC Dinamo Brest on 30 June.

Previous experience
Kuznetsov has already been in charge of Gomel once, having taken over from Vyacheslav Akshaev as coach in August 2000. He was in charge of the team until May 2001 when he left to assist Pavel Sadyrin, then coach of Russian giants PFC CSKA Moskva.

Coaching roles
He was on the coaching staff as CSKA won the Russian title in 2003 but left to work at FC Salyut-Energija Belgorod. Kuznetsov can also count on previous experience at other Belarussian clubs, having led FC Slavia Mozyr from May 1998 to June 2000, taking them to second place in the league in 1999 and Belarussian Cup triumph in 2000.
