Pavón staying put in Madrid

Real Madrid CF defender Francisco Pavón has extended his contract by two years, until June 2008.

Contract clause
The 24-year-old centre-back had been committed to the club until June 2006 but was able to renegotiate terms due to a clause in his existing deal. The extension took effect on completion of 100 games – a figure the player reached in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza.

Local boy
Madrid-born Pavón is a product of the club's much-vaunted youth system and has appeared five times in the UEFA Champions League this season as Madrid have progressed to the quarter-finals. The club, who take on Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey final tomorrow night, will meet AS Monaco FC in the last eight, with the first leg at home on 24 March.
