Hinkel extends Stuttgart stay

Andreas Hinkel has signed a contract with VfB Stuttgart tying him to the Bundesliga club until 2007.

Rising star
The 21-year-old, whose previous deal with the Bundesliga leaders was due to expire in 2005, made his international debut for Germany in April and Stuttgart coach Felix Magath was delighted to be holding on to one of his rising stars in the face of growing interest from clubs around Europe.

'Set an example'
"Andreas Hinkel has made a decision for this club knowing he could have earned a lot of money elsewhere," said Magath. "I hope it will set an example in German football."

Going places
The player said that his increased salary had no bearing on his decision. "I want to continue to develop as a player and to me that is the most important thing at the moment," insisted the right-back. "We have the chance to go places here in the next couple of years."
