Del Piero commits to Juventus

Alessandro Del Piero could finish his career with Juventus FC after agreeing a new contract until June 2008.

Out of action
The 28-year-old will be paid €7.9m a year, including €2.3m in advertising rights, according to a statement released by the Serie A club today. "A knight never leaves a Lady" was the headline in the Gazzetta dello Sport, playing on Juventus's nickname as the 'Old Lady' and referring to the Italian international striker's long association with the club.

Positive news
Del Piero is currently sidelined with a calf injury, and is aiming to return to action early next month. Juventus will hold a press conference with the player at the Delle Alpi stadium tomorrow ahead of Sunday's home match against Bologna FC. The club are second in the table, but level on ten points with leaders AS Roma.

Glory season
In 2002/03, Del Piero scored 16 times in 24 Serie A matches as Juve won their fifth championship during his time at the club and a second in succession. He also struck five times in 13 Champions League outings, and was one of only two Juve players to score in the final shoot-out defeat by AC Milan. The club have made a perfect start in this season's Champions League, winning their first two Group D games.
