Mols extends Rangers stay

Rangers FC's Dutch striker Michael Mols has signed a new one-year contract with the Scottish champions.

Rangers FC's Dutch international striker Michael Mols has signed a new one-year contract with the Scottish champions, the club said on Sunday.

'A lot of experience'
"The club are delighted Michael has signed a new contract," Rangers director Martin Bain said. "He brings a lot of experience, especially at European level, and that will be important for the squad next season."

Scoring record
The 32-year-old Mols, who joined Rangers from FC Utrecht in 1999, scored 14 goals as Rangers completed the domestic treble of the league title, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup for only the seventh time. He also scored in the 6-1 final-day victory over Dunfermline Athletic FC that handed Rangers the championship on goal difference from Glasgow rivals Celtic FC.

Team-mates depart
Rangers' fans will be delighted that Mols has signed a new deal after the recent departures of team-mates Arthur Numan and Claudio Caniggia. Spain Under-21 midfielder Mikel Arteta is believed to be keen to return to his homeland and the Glasgow club say they will listen to offers for him only one year after he joined from FC Barcelona. The club are hoping to enhance their squad for next season with FC Porto forward Nuno Capucho and Dundee FC defender Zurab Khizanishvili.

Qualifying round
Rangers' title victory means they will enter next season's UEFA Champions League at the third qualifying round stage, while Celtic take their place in the second qualifying round draw.
