Marseille sign Senegal's Beye

Olympique de Marseille have signed the Senegal defender Habib Beye from fellow French side RC Strasbourg.

Busy summer
Senegalese international Beye passed a medical at the Stade Vélodrome on Wednesday afternoon and was officially presented to the press immediately afterwards. The 26-year-old right-back, who is believed to have cost €1.2m, has penned a three-year contract and becomes Marseille's sixth signing of a busy summer.

Dream move
Beye admitted that joining Marseille was a dream for him. "Even though I was born in a suburb of Paris, Marseille are the club I followed as a boy," he said. "To be part of this team is a great challenge for me."

Austrian test
Marseille coach Alain Perrin was keen to complete the deal before Thursday so that Beye could line up against FK Austria Wien in next week's Champions League qualifier. He has also signed in time to make his French first division debut against AJ Auxerre on Friday.

Eleven international caps
Beye was a regular at Strasbourg where he had played for five seasons after moving to Alsace from Paris Saint-Germain FC. He has represented Senegal eleven times.
