Lippi happy with Juventus

Marcello Lippi has given Juventus FC a boost by signing a new two-year deal.

Marcello Lippi has given Juventus FC a boost on the eve of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against FC Barcelona.

Second spell
The 55-year-old coach has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2005, with an option for one more year after that. The Viareggio-born Lippi returned to the Delle Alpi stadium in 2001 after an unsuccessful spell at Internazionale FC, and immediately led the Bianconeri to success in Serie A.

Quick talks
Speaking after signing the contract today, he said: "Finally I signed and I'm happy. I met Juventus directors this afternoon and it took less than half an hour to reach an agreement." The 2001/02 title was his fourth as Juventus coach. Between 1994 and 1999 Lippi had won three Italian titles, the Champions League in 1996, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one Coppa Italia.

Riding high
In 1997 and 1998, Juve were twice runners-up in the Champions League after losing in the final against BV Borussia Dortmund BV and Real Madrid CF respectively. Juve, who are in first place in Serie A, welcome Barcelona for their Champions League fixture on Wednesday night before the return in Spain on 22 April.
