Sikora adds to Ajax woe

AFC Ajax have lost Victor Sikora for at least six weeks after he joined Rafael van der Vaart on the sidelines.

AFC Ajax have lost Victor Sikora for at least six weeks after he joined foward Rafael van der Vaart on the treatment table before Tuesday night's UEFA Champions League match against AS Roma.

Damaged cartilage
Tests have shown that Sikora damaged cartilage in his right knee in Saturday's 1-1 draw with De Graafschap. The club today confirmed that the winger would be out for at least a month and a half.

Koeman concerns
Van der Vaart was hurt in the same game, with his torn thigh muscle immediately ruling him out for a fortnight. Ajax coach Ronald Koeman also saw goalkeeper Joey Didulica leave the field with a hip injury but it is not thought to be serious.

Several men out
Koeman has a selection headache against Roma, with captain Cristian Chivu and midfield player Tomáš Galasek suspended. Additionally John O'Brien, Johnnny Heitinga and Bogdan Lobont are all out injured.

PSV waiting
As well as the Roma game, Ajax are gearing up for a top of the table league encounter with PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, who are just one point behind after 15 games.
