FC Spartak Moskva coach Oleg Romantsev was being treated in hospital today following his side's UEFA Champions League defeat by FC Basel in midweek.
Kidney stones
The 48-year-old had kidney stones removed in late August and it is believed the trip to Switzerland for Tuesday's match caused a recurrence of the problem on the flight. Romantsev, who resigned as Russia coach after the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, will not travel with his club this weekend to take on FC Rostselmash Rostov-Na-Donu.
Sytchev dispute
"He will not be flying to Rostov," said a club spokesman, referring to Saturday's game. Romantsev originally became ill after discussions with striker Dmitri Sytchev over his contract with the club. The player has since been given a four-month ban after walking out on Spartak.
Heart trouble
In October 1999, Romantsev was admitted to hospital with heart trouble following a Champions League game with FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Spartak were beaten 2-0 on Tuesday by Basel and face Valencia CF on Matchday Two next Wednedsay.
