With eight of the Matchday 3 matches already in the record books, UEFA.com casts an eye over the action and ponders the potential implications for #UCLfantasy managers.
Matchday 3 got off to a stunning start with Borussia Mönchengladbach equalling their biggest ever European Cup away win with a 6-0 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk, throwing Group B wide open in the process. Alassane Pléa was the star of the show, with the Frenchman registering three goals and an assist for a massive haul of 18 #UCLfantasy points. Pléa features in very Fantasy few teams at present, but his ownership can be expected to rise off the back of this performance as we head into a three-week break. His Mönchengladbach team-mate Ramy Bensebaini might find something similar after notching 14 points in Kyiv thanks to a clean sheet and a goal.
The goals were flying in elsewhere too, with the 35 scored on Tuesday evening marking the most goals scored on a single matchnight so far this season. There were also emphatic away wins for the last two winners of the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool’s shining light was summer signing Diogo Jota, who hit a hat-trick in the Reds’ remarkable 5-0 win at Atalanta, with defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez – the latter owned by only 4% of #UCLfantasy managers – chipping in with 12 points apiece.
Robert Lewandowski owners were rewarded for their patience as the Pole opened his account for the season with two goals in Bayern's 6-2 victory against Salzburg. Joshua Kimmich, meanwhile, underlined his status as one of the most attractive #UCLfantasy assets to own in defence as he registered a further two assists for the reigning European champions.
Manchester City made it three wins from three with their 3-0 win over Olympiacos and Ferran Torres was on the scoresheet yet again. The Spaniard has flown under the radar somewhat in Fantasy circles but he is the only player to have found the net on all three matchdays so far.
