UCL Fantasy Football: Goalkeepers

As the quarter-finals loom into view, there are only eight goalkeeping options for your squad; UEFA.com has some key pointers.

UCL Fantasy Football: Goalkeepers

With just eight teams remaining, selecting the right goalkeeper is now more crucial than ever for #UCLfantasy managers and UEFA.com are on hand to look at the goalkeeping candidates for your squad.

Pick your squad for the quarter-finals

Highlights: Chelsea 2-0 Atlético

It is difficult to look beyond the consistency of Edouard Mendy (€5.2m) in the goalkeeping department, with the Chelsea shot-stopper having conceded just one goal across his seven UEFA Champions League appearances this season. Those statistics make him the highest-scoring #UCLfantasy goalkeeper with 42 points heading into the quarter-finals, where Chelsea take on Portuguese outfit Porto.

Fellow Premier League goalkeeper Ederson (€6.0m) is not far behind with 39 #UCLfantasy points to his name, with Manchester City's watertight defence having not conceded in the UEFA Champions League since Matchday 1. Ederson owners should brace themselves though, as their asset is tasked with keeping out the competition's top scorer Erling Haaland in the quarter-finals, with Josep Guardiola's men drawn against Bundesliga side Dortmund.

Highlights: Bayern 2-1 Lazio

Featuring in a third of all teams, Bayern's Manuel Neuer (€6.0m) remains the most highly selected goalkeeper but the firepower of ParisSaint-Germain's forward line may tempt owners away ahead of Matchday 9. The German does have the edge in other departments over Mendy and Ederson though, as his 31 saves in the UEFA Champions League this season is bettered only by Paris' No1 Keylor Navas (€5.5m), who tops that particular list from the teams remaining in the competition.

Liverpool have had plenty of injury problems at the back this season – goalkeeper Alisson Becker (€5.9m) included – but the Brazilian boasts an excellent record from his five UEFA Champions League games. They have yielded four clean sheets, with only Atalanta finding a way past him on Matchday 4, and his lowly 3% ownership makes him a tempting differential ahead of two matches against Real Madrid.

Of course, every #UCLfantasy manager must choose two goalkeepers and, for many, Marwin Hitz (€4.1m) will be their backup. The Swiss stopper looks as if he has taken over from Roman Bürki as Dortmund's first choice and his budget-friendly price frees up funds to be used elsewhere.
