Champions League Fantasy Football: Goalkeepers

From established big names to those who have made the breakthrough this season, UEFA.com looks at some Matchday 4 options.

UEFA.com runs through a collection of goalkeepers who #UCLfantasy managers may want to consider for their Matchday 4 squads.

As the highest owned goalkeeper on the game by a large margin, 34% of #UCLfantasy managers will have been happy as Edouard Mendy (€6.1m) recorded his second clean sheet in this season's group stage on Matchday 3. Opponents Malmö are yet to score in Group H after three fixtures so Mendy owners can be confident of another shut-out in Sweden.

Both goalkeepers stood out as LOSC Lille and Sevilla played out a goalless draw in Group G. Whilst Sevilla's Yassine Bounou (€5.0m) acquired six #UCLfantasy points, LOSC's Ivo Grbić (€4.6m) was handsomely rewarded for his six saves, accumulating eight points – the highest score of any goalkeeper on Matchday 3. Grbić has now recorded 15 points across the group stage so far, fewer than only Manuel Neuer (€6.1m) and Wojciech Szczęsny (€5.6m). Despite a trip to Sevilla, #UCLfantasy managers may consider the reasonably-priced Grbić an ideal Matchday 4 transfer.

Matchday 3 best moments

Neuer is one of just two goalkeepers to have kept a clean sheet in all three matchdays so far. The German international had to work hard for his Matchday 3 shut-out despite Bayern's 4-0 win at Benfica, making three saves to keep the Portuguese side at bay. His score of seven points takes him to 19 for the season, the most of any goalkeeper, ahead of the reunion with Benfica in Munich.

Despite conceding away to Sporting CP on Matchday 1, Ajax have shown themselves to be a formidable defensive unit in both domestic and European competition. Since that game, Erik ten Hag's side have shipped just a single goal across eight fixtures in all competitions, meaning Remko Pasveer (€4.7m) has established himself as a highly attractive #UCLfantasy selection. Matchday 4 could be Ajax's toughest test yet defensively as they travel to Borussia Dortmund, but the Dutch champions will be full of confidence after a 4-0 win against the German club in Amsterdam. With Erling Haaland out due to a hip injury, the potency of Dortmund in front of goal may well be muted on Matchday 4 so owners of Pasveer could be in for more returns.
