UEFA.com reflects on the top-performing UEFA Champions League goalkeepers as managers prepare their squads for Matchday 5 on #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.
Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa (€5.0m) has become something of a #UCLfantasy must-have in the last two games, having backed up his 16-point haul on Matchday 3 with a further 15 points on Matchday 4 – eye-watering totals for a goalkeeper. Not only did the Portuguese international save a penalty in both matches, but he also recorded an assist against Leverkusen last time out, making him the leading Fantasy points scorer among goalkeepers with 33 points.
Not far behind is Simon Mignolet (€4.8m), who has refused to be beaten so far in the group stage. Club Brugge are the only team to have kept clean sheets in all four group games, and are now two matches away from becoming the first team in history to go through the whole group stage without conceding a goal. Matchday 4 brought Mignolet's biggest Fantasy score of the season, his 11-point return including of nine saves and the Player of the Match award.
Manchester City's Ederson (€6.0m) has only been beaten once in the UEFA Champions League this season, on Matchday 2 against Dortmund, but otherwise the Brazilian has been a reliable Fantasy asset. Only Costa and Mignolet have amassed more #UCLfantasy points among goalkeepers and another Ederson clean sheet looks distinctly possible when Pep Guardiola's side travel to Dortmund on Matchday 5.
Another standout performer on Matchday 5 was Copenhagen's Kamil Grabara (€4.0m), who achieved the impressive feat of keeping Manchester City at bay, helped in large part by his penalty save from Riyad Mahrez. The Danish side have kept clean sheets in two of their last three UEFA Champions League fixtures, and Grabara, who has been preferred to Mathew Ryan (€4.5m) in goal recently, looks a budget option as for the trip to Sevilla.
Atlético de Madrid have historically been a reliable source of clean sheets for #UCLfantasy managers but that has not been the case this season, the Liga outfit conceding five goals in their first three Group B encounters. However, Matchday 4's goalless draw with Club Brugge marked a first European shut-out of the campaign for Jan Oblak (€5.3m) and with his side potentially needing to win their final two matches of the group, the Slovenian is worth considering.
Having played second fiddle to Edouard Mendy (€6.0m) in recent seasons, it appears that Kepa (€4.5m) is now the first-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea and the Spaniard is making the most of the opportunity. He has featured in all four of the Blues' Group E games, keeping clean sheets in the last two and not conceding in his last four appearances in all competitions at the time of writing. Owned by just 4% of #UCLfantasy managers, Kepa represents a tempting differential option.
