Diogo Costa's Porto penalty saves

GOALKEEPERS

The magnificent recent form of Porto's Diogo Costa (€5.1m) continued on Matchday 5 as he recorded not only a third consecutive clean sheet in Group B, but also a third consecutive penalty save. The Portuguese international earned 12 Fantasy points as Porto won 4-0 at Club Brugge to seal their place in the knockout stage, meaning that Costa has now racked up 43 #UCLfantasy points since the start of Matchday 3.

Costa was not the only goalkeeper to save a penalty on Matchday 5, Dortmund's Gregor Kobel (€4.9m) denying Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez from the spot. Kobel was the only goalkeeper to match Costa's 12-point haul as the Dortmund No1 continues to make up for lost time after missing the first three group games due to injury.

It was also a profitable Matchday 5 for two goalkeepers on opposite sides of the same city, as both AC Milan's Ciprian Tătărușanu (€3.9m) and André Onana (€5.0m) of Inter kept a clean sheet to earn eight six points respectively. Both their teams won 4-0, Milan at Dinamo Zagreb and Inter at home to Plzeň, although only the latter have secured their passage into the knockout stage, Milan still have work to do heading into their home game with Salzburg on Matchday 6.

Robertson on Liverpool going through

DEFENDERS

As was the case on Matchday 3, a Liverpool full-back was the highest-scoring Fantasy asset among defenders on Matchday 5. This time, that player was Andy Robertson (€5.9m), who recorded an assist, seven ball recoveries, a clean sheet and 14 Fantasy points, a performance that brought him the Player of the Match award in Liverpool's 3-0 win at Ajax. His team-mate on the opposite flank, Trent Alexander-Arnold (€6.5m), picked up seven points, still a healthy score for a defender.

Three other defenders scored 14 Fantasy points on Matchday 5, including Gonzalo Montiel (€4.3m) on his first start for Sevilla in this season's group stage, finding the net and making nine ball recoveries as the Spanish side secured their first win in Group G. Centre-back Matteo Gabbia (€4.4m) was also on the scoresheet in Milan's victory at Dinamo Zagreb, whilst Napoli's Leo Østigard (€4.5m), making his UEFA Champions League debut, marked the occasion with a goal against Rangers.

Highlights: Barcelona 0-3 Bayern

MIDFIELDERS

It was a profitable Matchday 5 for two of Bayern's big names. Sadio Mané (€10.7m) scored for a third successive group game as the Bundesliga champions triumphed 3-0 at Barcelona and he also made nine ball recoveries, leading to an overall Fantasy score of 11 points. However, Mané was outscored from a #UCLfantasy perspective by Serge Gnabry (€8.9m), who set up all three of Bayern's goals in Spain to gain 13 points, a total unmatched by any other midfielder on Matchday 5.

Mane's former Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah (€11.1m) was on the scoresheet again, extending his tally to six goals in his last four Group A matches as Jürgen Klopp's men triumphed in Amsterdam. Salah's 11 points took his overall total to 47, the third highest score across all positions.

Yannick Carrasco (€7.4m) scored and set up a goal, gaining 12 Fantasy points in Atlético's 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, although his late penalty miss meant his side can no longer reach the round of 16. In contrast Sporting CP are still in the hunt to reach the next round after their 1-1 draw against Tottenham, Marcus Edwards (€7.1m) finding the net against the club where he started his career. Edwards' 12 point-haul was his second double-figure Fantasy score of the group stage.

Highlights: Paris 7-2 Maccabi Haifa

FORWARDS

Those #UCLfantasy managers who doubled up on Paris forward assets are likely to have been celebrating come the conclusion of Matchday 5. The French champions' 7-2 win at home to Maccabi Haifa provided big scores for both Kylian Mbappé (€11.2m) and Lionel Messi (€10.5m). The pair accumulated two goals and two assists apiece, but Messi outscored his team-mate on #UCLfantasy due to his Player of the Match award and the fact that one of his goals was scored from outside the box. This meant he finished with 20 points compared to Mbappé's 16.

Porto's Mehdi Taremi (€7.5m) continued his remarkable form in the group stage since returning from suspension, scoring twice in a Player of the Match performance against Club Brugge to earn 14 #UCLfantasy points. Edin Džeko (€7.5m) and Giovanni Simeone (€7.0m) also got two goals for Inter and Napoli respectively, each picking up 13 points which was matched by Rafa Silva (€8.5m), whose two goals helped led Benfica to a decisive 4-3 victory against Juventus in Group H.
