Champions League Fantasy Football: The Scout squad for Matchday 10

New Premier League leaders Manchester City provide five players for the Scout's squad for the quarter-final second legs, with Arsenal, Barcelona, Dortmund and Paris all supplying two.

Champions League Fantasy Football: The Scout squad for Matchday 10

With all four UEFA Champions League quarter-finals finely poised after the first legs, the Scout's squad for Matchday 10 is a tricky selection, although Manchester City's form in front of goal means the holders provide five of the 15 players, including Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne. Arsenal, Barcelona, Dortmund and Paris all have two representatives, while Harry Kane will look to add to his competition-leading seven goals this season.

Goalkeepers

Given there were no clean sheets at all in the four quarter-final first legs, save points might once again be the most likely route to returns for goalkeepers as the ties conclude. Gregor Kobel (€5.0m) has home advantage on Tuesday as Borussia Dortmund attempt to turn round their first-leg deficit against Atlético de Madrid; the Swiss international picked up three points on Matchday 9, remarkably the joint highest total among the eight keepers in action.

Wednesday's selection looks even more challenging, with the equivalent first legs bringing a total of ten goals. Real Madrid and Arsenal have the strongest defensive records of the four sides in action and it is the latter who supply the second goalkeeper, David Raya (€5.0m) looking for his fifth clean sheet of this season's Champions League at Bayern München.

Defenders

There are similar questions in defence, where it might be advisable to seek out players who have other potential avenues for points than simply clean sheets, given the first-leg results. Arsenal may have lost for the first time in 12 Premier League matches on Sunday but Ben White (€5.4m) remains a useful attacking outlet having provided an assist in the first leg against Bayern. Acharaf Hakimi (€6.1m) was suspended for Paris's first-leg loss at home to Barcelona but is available again and looking to add to his 44 Fantasy points – the third highest total among defenders.

Dortmund's Mats Hummels (€5.1m) remains the king of ball recoveries, his season total of 90 an incredible 30 more than any player still involved on Fantasy, ensuring his individual match total for the campaign has been four or higher in every appearance – most recently in the first leg at Atlético de Madrid. Also scoring highly in that category are Rúben Dias (€5.4m) of Manchester City, who has made 53 ball recoveries and is fifth overall in that ranking – one place and six recoveries ahead of Barcelona's Jules Koundé (€5.0m). Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain respectively remain challenging visitors, but the paid could still deliver respectable totals even if their sides concede.

Midfielders

Midfield is dominated by Manchester City, who have scored 16 goals in their last four matches in all competitions – and hit five on Saturday without Rodri (€6.7m) and Phil Foden (€8.2m). The latter's first-leg strike at Real Madrid was his fifth in this season's Champions League on just his seventh appearance and a 21st for the campaign, while Rodri has four attacking returns on Fantasy this season in addition to his defensive prowess. The City contingent is completed by Kevin De Bruyne (€10.6m), who started Saturday's 5-1 win against Luton having been forced to watch the draw in Madrid as an unused substitute after being taken ill.

Axel Witsel (€5.5m) was selected for the first leg at home to Dortmund and scored four points, making it 39 for the campaign – 18 of them via ball recoveries, which is likely to be another key factor as the Spanish side defend their lead away to the Belgian's former club. Vitinha (€6.0m) managed nine Fantasy points in the first leg despite his Paris side losing at home to Barcelona; one goal scored and nine balls recovered showed his abilities in both facets of the game, and at just 3% selection he also has differential appeal.

Highlights: Paris 2-3 Barcelona

Forwards

It is the same situation up front as last week with budget constraints meaning there is only room for two premium selections – and this time Kylian Mbappé is the player to miss out, a tough call considering his hat-trick the last time Paris visited Barcelona. However, Harry Kane (€10.1m) made it 15 goals in 20 appearance against Arsenal with his first-leg penalty in Bayern's draw in north London, while Erling Haaland (€11.7m) was on target on Saturday to make it goals in successive Premier League matches for the first time since November.

The front line is completed by Raphinha (€8.3m), whose first-leg double at Paris helped him to 13 points. The Brazilian is on 35 Fantasy points this season – 22 of them from his last two appearances – and has four goals and four assists in his last eight Barcelona matches. Furthermore, he was restricted to a role as a late substitute in Saturday's La Liga victory, suggesting he may well have been held in reserve for Tuesday's fixture.
