Champions League Fantasy Football: Seven things you might not know

To do well in Fantasy, it's important to understand the finer details of the game. Check out some of the key pieces of information you'll need to climb the leaderboards on Champions League Fantasy Football, presented by PlayStation.

Pick your Champions League Fantasy squad!

1. You can make subs while matchdays are live

In the Champions League, most matchdays span two days – with Matchday 1 taking place over three – and you can change your squad from day to day within each matchday. When the matchday ends, it's the players in your team whose points will count towards your total.

When setting up your starting XI for an upcoming matchday, start with players who play in the first day's matches. That way if they don't score as many points as you wanted, you can sub them out for members of your squad who haven't played yet in the matchday.

2. You can also switch captaincy during matchdays

The same goes for your captain. Remember that the player whose score is doubled is the player wearing the armband when the matchday ends.

So before the matchday starts, give the captaincy to a player who's playing on the first day of the matchday. Then, if he doesn't score as highly as you hoped, you can switch the captaincy to another player who hasn't played yet in the matchday.

3. You can wait until line-ups are announced to make changes

You can make changes to your team right up until the first match of the day kicks off. Since line-ups are announced before kick-off, you can wait until the first sets of teams come in before confirming your starting XI.

4. How assists work

For the full explanation of assists, check the Scoring Points section of the rules page.

5. You have two chips to help boost your score

For most matchdays, you only get a small number of free transfers. However, you have two chips which can be played once each.

The Wildcard chip gives you as many free transfers as you want, as long as you stay within the overall budget. Once the matchday is over, any players you transferred in will stay in your squad.

The Limitless chip lets you create the Fantasy team of your dreams for one matchday – with no budget restrictions! Once the matchday is over, your team will go back to how it was before you played the chip.

For more information, check the Chips section of the Fantasy rules.

6. There are two free unlimited transfer windows

The format contains knockout phase play-offs. Before those fixtures, you'll get free unlimited transfers – and you'll also get free unlimited transfers before the round of 16 kicks off.

7. Each Player of the Match gets three points

In each Champions League game, one player is given the Player of the Match award, decided by UEFA's technical observers.

In Fantasy Football, every Player of the Match gets an extra three points.
