A new format was introduced for the 2024/25 edition of the UEFA Champions League. We explain what that means for managers on Fantasy Football, presented by PlayStation.
League phase
During the league phase, each team plays eight matches: two against Pot 1 opponents, two against Pot 2 opponents, and so on.
For matches against any given pot, one match is at home and one is away.
As a Fantasy manager, for each league phase matchday you get two free transfers.
What happens at the end of the league phase?
The top eight teams go straight into the round of 16. To determine their opponents, teams placed 9th to 24th go into a two-legged knockout phase play-off.
Fantasy managers get free unlimited transfers ahead of the play-offs.

What happens for the round of 16?
The eight knockout phase play-off winners will be drawn against the eight teams that qualified directly for the round of 16 from the league phase.
As a Fantasy manager, you’ll get free unlimited transfers ahead of the round of 16.
Again, you won’t want to miss this transfer deadline!
What about the rest of the competition?
From the quarter-finals onwards, transfers and subs work just as they did under the previous format.
