Fantasy Football and the Champions League format

The Champions League changed format ahead of 2024/25 – find out how that affects Fantasy Football.

Fantasy Football and the Champions League format

A new format was introduced for the 2024/25 edition of the UEFA Champions League. We explain what that means for managers on Fantasy Football, presented by PlayStation.

League phase

Under the current format, teams play eight matches in the league phase.

To determine the eight different opponents, the teams are initially ranked in four seeding pots. Each team is then drawn to play two opponents from each of these pots, playing one match against a team from each pot at home, and one away.

As a Fantasy manager, for each league phase matchday you get two free transfers.

What happens at the end of the league phase?

The top eight sides in the league phase qualify automatically for the round of 16, while the teams finishing in 9th to 24th place will compete in a two-legged knockout phase play-off to secure their path to the last 16 of the competition.

As a Fantasy manager, there are unlimited free transfers ahead of the knockout phase play-offs.

Just don't miss that transfer deadline! Remember to activate push notifications to get a deadline reminder.

What happens for the round of 16?

As a Fantasy manager, there are again unlimited free transfers ahead of the round of 16.

Again, you won't want to miss this transfer deadline!

What about the rest of the competition?

From the quarter-finals onwards, transfers and subs work just as they did under the previous format.
