With Matchday 1 spanning three days, UEFA.com looks at some top captaincy options from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's fixtures. Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Lamine Yamal will be some of the more popular contenders on Matchday 1 of #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.
TUESDAY 17 SEPTEMBER
Harry Kane (€10.5m) vs GNK Dinamo (H)
Kane is currently the fourth highest-owned forward in #UCLfantasy, and with Bayern München beginning their campaign at home, the England international is an appealing captaincy choice on Matchday 1. The joint-top scorer in last season's competition with eight goals, Kane also contributed four assists during Bayern's run to the semi-finals.
Kylian Mbappé (€11.0m) vs Stuttgart (H)
An equally tempting armband choice is another forward who struck eight times in the 2023/24 Champions League. Mbappé has scored 48 career goals in the competition for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, and will now look to add to that tally at holders Real Madrid. The French superstar, who will line up against Stuttgart on Matchday 1, has three goals to his name so far for his new club.
WEDNESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER
Bradley Barcola (€7.0m) vs Girona (H)
Fantasy managers often keep their eyes open for an in-form differential captain, and Barcola firmly falls into that category. Featuring in 7% of teams at the time of writing, the Frenchman has scored four goals in Paris's first three games of the season and has started the last two Ligue 1 games on the left side of a front three. Semi-finalists last season, Paris are at home to debutants Girona on Matchday 1.
Erling Haaland (€11.0m) vs Inter (H)
While a repeat of the 2022/23 Champions League final is a difficult opening fixture for Manchester City, Haaland's early-season productivity in front of goal is difficult to ignore. The Norwegian striker already has seven Premier League goals after hat-tricks in his last two club outings, and is currently the highest-owned Fantasy forward – no surprise after 41 Champions League goals in just 39 games.
THURSDAY 19 SEPTEMBER
Lamine Yamal (€7.5m) vs Monaco (A)
With Yamal featuring in more Fantasy teams than any other player, the 17-year-old winger is likely to be a popular choice for those managers looking to make a captaincy switch for the final set of Matchday 1 fixtures. In Barcelona's first four domestic games Yamal has recorded a goal and four assists, and will be looking to extend that form as his side travel to Monaco.
Bukayo Saka (€9.0m) vs Atalanta (A)
After eight attacking returns and a Player of the Match award in last season's Champions League, Saka could once again justify his premium price in 2024/25. Arsenal's first three Premier League games of the campaign have brought a goal and three assists for the 23-year-old, although Matchday 1 opponents and UEFA Europa League holders Atalanta might prove less obliging.
