This is the clubs' first meeting, and Inter's first game against Swiss opponents in more than 20 years.
Form guide
Young Boys
Record vs Italian clubs: W4 D1 L5 F15 A19
Home record vs Italian clubs: W3 D1 L1
Young Boys lost 1-0 at Atalanta before a 3-3 home draw in the 2021/22 Champions League group stage in their most recent games against Italian opponents.
That made it four games without a win against Serie A sides (D1 L3), since a 2-1 defeat of Juventus on Matchday 6 of the 2018/19 Champions League that is their sole success in their last seven matches against Italian clubs (D1 L5) having won their first three.
YB won their first three home matches against Italian visitors but are without a victory in the last two (D1 L1).
YB are in the Champions League proper for the fourth time – all in the last seven seasons.
In 2023/24, the Swiss side finished third in their section behind Manchester City and Leipzig but ahead of Crvena Zvezda thanks to a 2-0 home win against the Serbian side on Matchday 5; they had drawn 2-2 in Belgrade, losing their other four games.
Young Boys therefore moved across into the UEFA Europa League but their campaign lasted only one tie, losing to Sporting CP in the knockout round play-offs (1-3 h, 1-1 a).
The Bern club started this season in the Champions League play-offs, winning 3-2 at home to Galatasaray and sealing a place in the league phase with a 1-0 win in Istanbul.
The Swiss club have lost five of their last eight European home matches – as many as in their previous 24 games – winning the other three.
YB won their sixth Swiss Super League title in seven years in 2023/24, their 17th championship overall.
Inter
Record vs Swiss clubs: W4 D3 L1 F15 A5
Away record vs Swiss clubs: W1 D3 L0
Inter have not played a team from Switzerland since beating Basel 5-2 on aggregate in the 2004/05 Champions League third qualifying round (1-1 a, 4-1 h).
That made it three wins in four games against Swiss clubs, since a 0-1 loss at home to Lugano in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup first round that completed a 1-2 aggregate defeat.
That remains Inter's only loss to a Swiss club, although a 2-0 success at Neuchâtel Xamax in the 1997/98 UEFA Cup first round (4-0 aggregate) is their sole victory in Switzerland.
This is the Nerazzurri's 18th appearance in the Champions League, and a seventh in succession.
Runners-up to Manchester City in the 2023 final, losing 1-0 in Istanbul – Inter's most successful Champions League campaign since lifting the trophy in 2010 – Simone Inzaghi's side were second behind Real Sociedad in Group D in 2023/24 but were then edged out by Atlético de Madrid in the round of 16 (1-0 h, 1-2 a, 2-3 pens).
That was the second time in the last three seasons than Inter's campaign had foundered in the last 16.
Inter have managed only eight victories in their last 23 away Champions League games (D7 L8) although they have won six of the last 14.
Champions of Europe in 1964, 1965 and 2010, Inter claimed their 20th Serie A title in 2023/24, finishing 19 points clear of runners-up AC Milan. It was their first championship since 2021 and only a second in the past 14 seasons.
