Bayern München and Paris Saint-Germain are meeting for the fourth time in six seasons, a sequence that includes Bayern's victory in the 2020 UEFA Champions League final, as they face off in Germany on Matchday 5.
Both sides have work to do in the new league phase. Bayern have won both home games – 9-2 at home to GNK Dinamo, the first time a team had scored nine in a Champions League match, and 1-0 against Benfica on Matchday 4 – but lost both away, at Aston Villa (0-1) and Barcelona (1-4).
Paris have four points to Bayern's six, conceding in the 93rd minute to lose 1-2 at home to Atlético de Madrid last time out. Their only win came via a 90th-minute own goal at home to debutants Girona on Matchday 1 (1-0) before defeat at Arsenal (0-2) and a draw at home to PSV Eindhoven (1-1).

Choupo-Moting got the only goal of the second leg at the Parc des Princes but the French side held on to go through.

Bayern's last five games against French clubs – and seven of the last eight – have been against Paris, the exception a 3-0 defeat of Lyon in the one-off Champions League semi-final in 2019/20.
The Munich club have won 12 of their last 14 games against French teams, home and away, losing to Paris in 2017 and 2021.
That 2021 defeat against Paris is the only one of Bayern's last six games against French clubs in Munich they have not won.
The German club have featured in the Champions League proper in every season since 2008/09, reaching the knockout rounds in each one of those campaigns.
Overall, this is Bayern's 28th campaign in the Champions League proper, level with Porto and fewer only than Barcelona and Real Madrid (both 29).
Defeat at Villa on Matchday 2 this season ended Bayern's record run of 41 Champions League group/league phase matches unbeaten (W37 D4).
Bayern won five of their six group games in 2023/24, then edged past Lazio (3-1 aggregate) and Arsenal (3-2 agg) before conceding two late goals in the semi-final second leg at Real Madrid to bow out (2-2 h, 1-2 a).
The six-time European champions have reached the quarter-finals or better in 12 of their last 13 Champions League campaigns, the exception a last-16 elimination by Liverpool in 2018/19.
Bayern have won 22 of their last 27 home Champions League games, drawing four – the only loss a 2-3 reverse to Paris in the 2020/21 quarter-final first leg.
A side coached by Thomas Tuchel relinquished their hold on the Bundesliga title in 2023/24, finishing third behind Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart. It was the first time Bayern had failed to win the title since 2011/12 and their lowest league placing since 2010/11, when they were also third.

Paris played four games against German clubs in 2023/24, all against Borussia Dortmund. They were 2-0 winners at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 1 and drew 1-1 in Germany on Matchday 6, but lost 1-0 both away and at home in the semi-finals.
Last season's win against Dortmund is Paris's only victory in seven matches against Bundesliga clubs (D2 L4).
The 3-2 win at Bayern four seasons ago is Paris's only victory in eight games in Germany (D2 L5).
This is Paris's 17th campaign in the Champions League proper, a new French record; they had previously been level with Lyon. They have featured every season since 2012/13, reaching the knockout stages in all 12 of those most recent campaigns.
Les Parisiens were second in their section behind Dortmund last season and beat Spanish pair Real Sociedad (4-1 aggregate) and Barcelona (6-4 aggregate) in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively, before losing to Dortmund in the last four.
The French side have lost in the last 16 in five of their last eight Champions League campaigns.

Coman was born in Paris, joining the club's academy in 2004. He made his first-team debut against Sochaux in February 2013 to become, aged 16 years 250 days, the club's youngest-ever player. Coman signed for Juventus in July 2014 having made only four appearances for Paris's senior side.
Lucas Hernández made 107 appearances for Bayern between 2019 and 2023, when he joined Paris; he won four Bundesliga titles and a German Cup and was part of their 2019/20 Champions League-winning squad, appearing in UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup victories the following season.

Vincent Kompany's team have won seven of their last eight games (L1), all without conceding.
A Harry Kane hat-trick – two of them penalties – in the final half-hour earned a 3-0 victory against Augsburg in Munich on Friday. Kane has now scored 50 goals in 43 Bundesliga games, a new record.
Kane has 14 goals in this season's Bundesliga and 23 in 22 games for club and country this season.
On 16 November Jamal Musiala, who has seven goals in his last eight games for club and country, and Leroy Sané registered in Germany's 7-0 UEFA Nations League win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bradley Barcola is Paris's top scorer in Ligue 1 this season with ten goals, including two in a 4-2 victory in Angers on 9 November.
Luis Enrique's side have lost only one league game in 2024 – 1-3 at home to Toulouse on 12 May – winning 20 and drawing eight.
Ousmane Dembélé withdrew from the France squad due to a hamstring injury but started on Friday.
Nuno Mendes (ankle) and Senny Mayulu (calf) sat out the win against Toulouse.
Gonçalo Ramos has not played since suffering an ankle injury in a 4-1 win at Le Havre on 16 August but has resumed training with the squad.
