Home record vs Italian clubs: W3 D0 L1
Unai Emery's side have already beaten an Italian side in Birmingham in the 2024/25 Champions League, defeating Bologna 2-0 on Matchday 3.
That was Villa's first game against an Italian club since September 1994 when, having lost 1-0 at Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup first round, they won by the same scoreline at Villa Park and progressed 4-3 on penalties.
Villa's only other win against Serie A sides – indeed, the only other of their seven games they have not lost – was a 2-0 home victory against Inter in the second round of the same competition in 1990/91. They were beaten 3-0 in the Milan return.
Villa have therefore won their last three home matches against Italian teams, keeping clean sheets in all three.
This is Villa's first Champions League campaign – they are the 11th English club to feature in the competition proper.
Villa are taking part in the European Cup for the third time overall, and a first since 1982/83.
The Villans were involved in European competition for the first time since 2010/11 in 2023/24, Emery's team reaching the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals where they lost to eventual champions Olympiacos (2-4 h, 0-2 a).
The Birmingham club have won eight of their last nine home European games, the exception that first-leg defeat by Olympiacos.
Emery guided Villa to fourth place in the Premier League in 2023/24 – their highest finish since 1995/96, when they were also fourth.
Villa are one of five clubs making their Champions League debuts in 2024/25, along with Brest, Bologna, Girona and Slovan Bratislava.
Juventus
Record vs English clubs: W21 D12 L17 F60 A56
Away record vs English clubs: W5 D6 L13
Juve's last games against a Premier League team came in the 2021/22 group stage, when they won 1-0 at home to holders Chelsea but lost 4-0 away – their heaviest defeat by an English club.
That was also Juve's second loss in their last three games against English teams, although those are their only defeats in 12 (W6 D4).
Juve had won their previous three games in England and were unbeaten in five (W3 D2).
Juventus are making their 24th appearance in the Champions League proper – an Italian record, three more than AC Milan.
The Bianconeri were not involved in 2023/24, missing out on European competition for the first time since 2011/12.
The 2022/23 campaign was their 11th in succession in the Champions League, Juve missing out on the round of 16 for the first time since 2013/14 after finishing behind Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain in their section.
They went on to win three Europa League ties before losing 3-2 on aggregate to eventual champions Sevilla in the semi-finals.
Juve had lost three successive away Champions League matches, conceding eight goals, before the Matchday 2 victory at Leipzig – their only win in seven (D2 L4).
Champions of Europe in 1985 and 1996, Juve have lost seven European Cup finals including five in the Champions League era – more than any other club.
Having won a record nine successive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2020, Juve finished third in 2023/24 – their highest final placing since being crowned champions in 2019/20.
Massimiliano Allegri was replaced as Juve coach by Thiago Motta in the summer.
