Form guide

Paris

Record vs English clubs: W8 D9 L13 F 36 A44
Home record vs English clubs: W5 D5 L4

Paris lost 2-0 at Arsenal on Matchday 2, making it three defeats in their last four games against English clubs (D1) and one win – and five defeats – in their last seven games.

The French club lost 4-1 at Newcastle in last season's group stage, Mbappé's last-gasp penalty subsequently salvaging a 1-1 home draw.

The 2-0 home win against City in 2021/22 is one of only four Paris victories in their last 17 matches against English sides, home and away (D4 L9). The Parisiens had lost their previous three home games against English visitors; a 2-1 defeat of Liverpool on 28 November 2018 is Paris's only other win in their last eight home fixtures.

This is Paris's 17th campaign in the Champions League proper, a new French record; they had previously been level with Lyon. They have featured every season since 2012/13, reaching the knockout stages in all 12 of those campaigns.

Runners-up to Bayern München in the 2020 final, Les Parisiens were second in their section behind Borussia Dortmund last season. After eliminating Real Sociedad (4-1 aggregate) and Barcelona (6-4 agg) they came up short against Dortmund again in the last four (0-1 a, 0-1 h).

The French side have lost in the last 16 in five of their last eight campaigns.

The Parisians have won 16 of their last 39 European matches (D8 L15), including a 1-0 defeat of Girona on Matchday 1. Paris have subsequently drawn 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven and lost 1-2 to Atlético de Madrid, their tenth loss in their last 78 European home games (W48 D20) and eighth in their last 28 matches at the Parc des Princes.

Paris claimed their 12th French title, and tenth in the last 12 seasons, in 2023/24 and lifted the Coupe de France for the 15th time to complete a fifth domestic double.

Manchester City

Record vs French clubs: W7 D3 L4 F25 A19
Away record vs French clubs: W2 D2 L2

City's last four games against French opponents have all been against Paris.

The 2-0 loss in Paris in September 2021 is the only one of City's last six matches against Ligue 1 opponents they have not won after only two victories in the first eight (D3 L3).

Their win at Paris in April 2021 is one of only two City have recorded in France, the other a 3-0 success at Marseille in the 2020/21 group stage on their previous visit.

This is City's 14th successive season in the Champions League; they have featured in every campaign since 2011/12 and have reached the knockout stages in each of the last 11.

Having claimed the club's first Champions League title in 2022/23, Pep Guardiola's side won all six group games for the first time last season, the seventh successive season in which City had come first in their group.

City then brushed past Copenhagen in the round of 16 (3-1 a, 3-1 h) but lost an epic quarter-final against eventual champions Real Madrid (3-3 a, 1-1 h, 3-4 pens) – the third season in a row in which they had faced the Spanish side.

The Cityzens have won 20 of their last 37 away European matches (D10 L7), including 4-0 at Slovan Bratislava on Matchday 2, and were unbeaten in 12 (W6 D6), since a 3-1 extra-time loss at Real Madrid in the 2021/22 semi-final second leg, before going down 4-1 at Sporting CP on Matchday 4. The loss at Juventus last time out made it successive away defeats for the first time since 2014.

Guardiola's side claimed a fourth successive Premier League title in 2023/24 – a new English record – but lost to neighbours Manchester United in the FA Cup final to miss out on a second successive double.
