That was one of only two victories in their last nine games against English clubs, a run that features six defeats – including 2-0 at Arsenal on Matchday 2.

The win against City is one of only five in Paris' last 19 matches against English sides, home and away (D4 L10). They have lost their last four games in England, and five of their last seven (W2).

This is Paris's 17th campaign in the Champions League proper, a new French record; they had previously been level with Lyon. They have featured every season since 2012/13, reaching the knockout stages in all 13 of those most recent campaigns.

Last season Les Parisiens beat Spanish pair Real Sociedad (4-1 aggregate) and Barcelona (6-4 aggregate) in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively, before losing to Borussia Dortmund in the last four (0-1 a, 0-1 h).

Paris lost 2-3 at home to Barcelona in last season's quarter-final first leg but progressed after a 4-1 away success – the first time they had won a European tie after a home first-leg loss at the eighth attempt. Three of those defeats came after a 0-1 home first-leg loss, most recently against Bayern in the 2022/23 round of 16 (0-2 a).

Paris's record in one UEFA penalty shoot-out is W0 L1:
