Pafos begin their home UEFA Champions League campaign with a glamour fixture as six-time winners Bayern München come to Cyprus on Matchday 2.
Last match
This is the first match between the teams.
Pafos have only faced one German club, losing 0-1 at home to Heidenheim on Matchday 2 of last season's UEFA Conference League.
Bayern have won all their previous six matches against teams from Cyprus, scoring 31 goals and conceding only two. This is their first fixture since beating APOEL 3-2 away – the only goals a Cypriot club has scored against Bayern – and 4-0 at home in the 1990/91 European Cup first round.
Pafos are in the Champions League for the first time. They took part in UEFA competition for the first time in 2024/25, losing to Elfsborg in the Europa League first qualifying round but going on to reach the UEFA Conference League round of 16.
Juan Carlos Carcedo's side are the third team from Cyprus to reach the Champions League proper after APOEL (four times) and Anorthosis Famagusta (once) and the first since APOEL in 2017/18.
Pafos were crowned Cypriot champions for the first time in 2024/25.
Bayern have featured in the Champions League proper in every season since 2008/09, reaching the knockout rounds every time.
This is Bayern's 29th campaign in the Champions League proper, fewer only than Barcelona and Real Madrid (both 30).
Twelfth in last season's league phase (W5 L3), the German club beat Celtic 3-2 on aggregate in the knockout phase play-offs and Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 in the last 16 before losing to Inter in the quarter-finals (1-2 h, 2-2 a).
Key stats
A 0-0 draw at Olympiacos on Matchday 1 made it one defeat in Pafos' last 13 European matches (W7 D5). They are unbeaten in seven this season (W4 D3) and have kept four clean sheets in the last six.
Pafos have lost only one of their last 11 home European matches (W8 D2).
Bayern have lost only two of their last 12 Champions League fixtures (W8 D2).
The Munich club have lost only three of their last 49 group stage/league phase games (W42 D4).
Two goals in Bayern's 3-1 Matchday 1 defeat of Chelsea made it eight in Harry Kane's last eight Champions League appearances.
Kane now has 21 goals in the Champions League for both Tottenham and Bayern; he is one of only three players with more than 20 goals in the competition for two clubs, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
Kane hit a hat-trick in Tottenham's 3-0 group stage win at APOEL in the 2017/18 Champions League.
