Barcelona and Olympiacos will both look to bounce back from their first UEFA Champions League defeats of the season when they meet in Spain on Matchday 3.

Last match

The teams' only previous meetings came in the 2017/18 group stage, Barcelona winning 3-1 in Spain on Matchday 3 – Lionel Messi scoring their second goal – before a goalless Matchday 4 draw in Greece.

Those were Barcelona's last games against Greek opponents and made it nine games unbeaten (W7 D2), with six clean sheets in the last eight. The Catalan club have lost only two of their 14 matches against clubs from Greece, winning ten.

Barça have won all seven home games versus Greek visitors, scoring 29 goals and conceding only four.

Olympiacos' have won only one of their last 12 matches against Spanish sides (D3 L8) and have not scored in four of the last five, most recently drawing 0-0 at home before a 0-1 away loss at Real Betis in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League group stage.

The Greek club have never won in Spain, losing on 14 of their 16 visits and conceding 38 goals.

Barcelona

Second in last season's league phase (W6 D1 L1), Hansi Flick's side went on to beat Benfica (4-1 aggregate) and Borussia Dortmund (5-3) before losing to Inter in the semi-finals (6-7).

Olympiacos

This is Olympiacos' 21st appearance in the Champions League proper – but a first since 2020/21. That ended in the group stage, for the fifth successive Champions League campaign.

The Greek side lost to Bodø/Glimt in last season's Europa League round of 16, having finished seventh in the league phase.
