PSV Eindhoven are looking for their first win of this season's UEFA Champions League as they welcome a Napoli side who got off the mark last time out.

Last match

PSV won both matches on the sole previous occasion the sides were paired together, triumphing 3-0 in Eindhoven and 3-1 in Naples in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage, future Napoli striker Dries Mertens among the scorers in Netherlands and Tim Matavž hitting a hat-trick in Italy.

PSV have lost only three of their last 12 matches at home to Italian teams (W7 D2).

A 3-1 second-leg extra-time success against Juventus in last season's knockout phase play-offs ended PSV's run of six games without a win against Serie A sides (D2 L4).

Napoli’s last matches against a Dutch team were in the 2022/23 group stage, when they beat Ajax 6-1 in Amsterdam and 4-2 in Naples. That made it three wins in their ten fixtures against Eredivisie clubs (D3 L4).

PSV

Dutch champions for the 26th time – and second season in succession – in 2024/25, PSV are in the Champions League proper for the 19th time, a national record they share with Ajax.

Peter Bosz's side were 14th in last season's league phase (W4 D2 L2) and beat Juventus in the knockout phase play-offs (1-2 a, 3-1 h aet) – their first victory in a knockout tie since 2006/07 – but were then defeated by Arsenal in the round of 16 (1-7 h, 2-2 a).

Napoli

This is Napoli's ninth campaign in the Champions League proper; their best performance came in 2022/23, when they reached the quarter-finals.

The Naples club were not involved in UEFA competition in 2024/25 – the first time they had missed out since 2009/10.

Key stats

PSV have scored 297 European Cup goals after their 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen in their last game; Ajax (396) are the only Dutch club to reach 300 in the competition.

A 1-3 home defeat by Union Saint-Gilloise on Matchday 1 is one of only three in PSV's last 15 games in the Champions League group stage/league phase (W6 D6).

There have been 45 goals in PSV's last 11 Champions League matches at an average of 4.1 per game.

Napoli have lost their last three away Champions League matches, going down 2-0 at Manchester City on Matchday 1.

That is one of only four defeats in Napoli's last 20 Champions League group stage/league phase games (W12 D4). They beat Sporting CP 2-1 in Naples last time out.
