Atalanta and Chelsea meet for the first time on UEFA Champions League Matchday 6 with the teams level on ten points in the league phase table.

Last match

Atalanta's record in 11 matches against English opposition is W4 D3 L4; this is their first fixture since drawing 0-0 at home to Arsenal on Matchday 1 last season.

Chelsea last faced Italian opponents in the 2022/23 group stage, beating AC Milan 3-0 at home and 2-0 away.

That made it three successive wins, and clean sheets, against Serie A sides for the Blues, who had managed two victories in the preceding 12 games (D3 L7).

Atalanta

Atalanta are taking part in the Champions League proper for the fifth time – all since 2019 – in 2025/26.

The Bergamo club were ninth in last season's league phase (W4 D3 L1) before losing 2-5 on aggregate to Club Brugge in the knockout phase play-offs.

Atalanta parted company with coach Ivan Jurić on 10 November, appointing Raffaele Palladino as his replacement the following day.

Chelsea

This is Chelsea's 20th Champions League campaign, and a first since 2022/23, when they progressed to the quarter-finals – they have reached the knockout rounds in their last eight campaigns.

Enzo Maresca's side won the UEFA Conference League in 2024/25, beating Real Betis 4-1 in the final.

Key stats

Davide Zappacosta made 52 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea between 2017 and 2019, winning the UEFA Europa League in 2018/19. The full-back left the west London club to join Atalanta for a second spell in 2021.

Atalanta were 3-0 winners at Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 5 and have lost only two of their last 19 group stage/league phase games in European competition (W11 D6) and one of the last nine at home (W4 D4).

La Dea are unbeaten in four Champions League games (W3 D1).

The victory at Frankfurt was Atalanta's ninth clean sheet in their last 14 group stage/league phase games in UEFA competition, and a third in succession.

All six of Atalanta's league phase goals this season have come in the second half.

Ademola Lookman has scored in five of his last eight Champions League appearances.

A 3-0 win against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 5 was Chelsea's 15th in their last 18 European games (D1 L2).

The Blues have won 13 of their last 15 group stage/league phase matches in Europe (D1 L1).

Chelsea have scored in their last 20 European games and have opened the scoring in their last four.

Indeed, none of Chelsea's last 53 European fixtures have finished goalless.

Aged 18 years 215 days, Estêvão became the second youngest player to score in three consecutive Champions League matches with his goal against Barcelona, behind Kylian Mbappé (18 years 113 days).
