Olympiacos are running out of time to make an impact in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League as Bayer Leverkusen come to Piraeus on Matchday 7.

The Greek champions are on five points (W1 D2 L3) and began the matchday in 29th position in the league phase table. Leverkusen are four points better off with nine (W2 D3 L1) and were in 20th place at the start of Matchday 7.

Last match

The clubs' only previous meetings came in the 2002/03 first group stage, Olympiacos winning 6-2 in Greece on Matchday 1 before Leverkusen responded with a 2-0 victory in Germany on Matchday 5.

Olympiacos are winless in 13 encounters with Bundesliga opposition (D1 L12), since a 3-1 home group stage victory against Borussia Dortmund in October 2011. They lost 2-3 at home and 0-5 away to Freiburg in their last fixtures, in the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League group stage.

Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last three games against Greek opponents (W2 D1), keeping clean sheets in all of them; this is their first fixture since taking on Aris Thessaloniki in the 2010/11 Europa League group stage (0-0 a, 1-0 h).

Olympiacos

This is Olympiacos' 21st appearance in the Champions League proper – but a first since 2020/21. That ended in the group stage, for the fifth successive Champions League campaign.

The Greek side lost to Bodø/Glimt in last season's Europa League round of 16, having finished seventh in the league phase.

Leverkusen

Leverkusen are featuring in the Champions League proper for the 15th time – although only the fourth in nine seasons.

In 2024/25 a team coached by Xabi Alonso finished sixth in the league phase (W5 D1 L2) only to lose an all-German last-16 tie to Bayern München (0-3 a, 0-2 h).

Key stats

After a 1-0 victory at Kairat Almaty on Matchday 6, Olympiacos are seeking successive wins in a single Champions League campaign (Matchday 1 to final) for the first time since winning three in a row in the 2015/16 group stage.

Victory at Kairat was only Olympiacos' third in their last 26 games in the Champions League group stage/league phase (D4 L19) and a first in 11 (D2 L8), since a 1-0 victory at home against Marseille on 21 October 2020.

Having drawn 2-2 at home to Newcastle on Matchday 6, Leverkusen have lost only two of their last ten matches in the league phase (W5 D3).

Die Werkself have lost only three of their last 22 European group stage/league phase matches (W13 D6).

Leverkusen have won their last two away league phase games without conceding, triumphing 2-0 at Manchester City on Matchday 5 to end the Premier League club's seven-year unbeaten home run in the group stage/league phase.

The German club have opened the scoring in four of their last five league phase fixtures.

Alejandro Grimaldo has scored in Leverkusen's last two Champions League matches, including an 88th-minute equaliser against Newcastle last time out.
