Bayern München will look to consolidate second place in the league phase standings at home to Union Saint-Gilloise, who began Matchday 7 outside the qualifying places for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds.

The German champions have won five of their first six games (L1) and occupied second place ahead of the penultimate set of fixtures; Union SG have six points (W2 L4) from their first Champions League campaign and were 27th after the conclusion of Matchday 6.

Last match

This is the teams' first fixture.

A 4-0 win against Club Brugge on Matchday 3 made it three successive victories against Belgian clubs for Bayern, who have lost only one of their last 11 games (W7 D3) and scored nine goals in winning each of the last three.

Bayern have won eight of their nine home games against Belgian visitors (L1), scoring 21 goals and conceding only four.

Union SG have lost just two of their eight with Bundesliga opposition (W3 D3) although they have won only two of the last seven (D3 L2) and one of the last four (D2 L1).

A 2-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2023/24 UEFA Conference League knockout phase play-off second leg (4-3 aggregate) ensured Union SG remain unbeaten in their four matches in Germany (W2 D2).

Bayern

Bayern have featured in the Champions League proper in every season since 2008/09, reaching the knockout rounds every time. This is their 29th campaign, fewer only than Barcelona and Real Madrid (both 30).

Twelfth in last season's league phase (W5 L3), the German club eventually lost 3-4 on aggregate to Inter in the quarter-finals.

Union SG

This is Union SG's debut in the Champions League proper. They are the eighth Belgian team to appear.

Les Unionistes featured in the UEFA Europa League group stage/league phase in each of the last three seasons. In 2024/25 they were 21st in the league phase before losing 2-3 on aggregate to Ajax in the knockout phase play-offs.

Key stats

A 3-1 win against Sporting CP on Matchday 6 stretched Bayern's unbeaten home run in the Champions League group stage/league phase to 37 matches with 35 wins and two draws since a 2-3 defeat by Manchester City in December 2013.

Only one of Bayern's last 75 European games finished goalless.

The German club have won 249 European Cup games; only Real Madrid (306 before Matchday 7) have won 250 in the competition.

Lennart Karl's goal on Matchday 6 made him, aged 17 years 290 days, the youngest player to score in three successive Champions League matches, breaking Kylian Mbappé's record (18 years 113 days). Karl could now become the youngest to score in four consecutive games at 17 years 333 days, again surpassing Mbappé's mark (18 years 120 days).

Beaten 2-3 at home by Marseille on Matchday 6, Union SG have lost four of their last five Champions League matches (W1).

The Belgian champions have opened the scoring in their last two league phase games.
