Monaco must bounce back from their heaviest European defeat as they welcome already-qualified Juventus on Matchday 8 with a place in the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds on the line.

The French side are 21st in the league phase standings on nine points, three behind their Italian visitors who sealed progress last time out and go into the final fixture in 15th position.

Last match

All six of the clubs' previous matches came in the Champions League knockout rounds, Juventus triumphing on aggregate on each occasion – most recently in the 2016/17 semi-finals (2-0 a, 2-1 h).

The Bianconeri also got the better of Monaco in the 1997/98 semi-finals (4-1 h, 2-3 a) and the 2014/15 quarter finals (1-0 h, 0-0 a).

Monaco have won only four of their previous 17 matches against Italian teams (D3 L10) and only one of the last six – 1-0 at Bologna on Matchday 4 last season. A 3-0 defeat at Inter in their last such fixture, on Matchday 8 in 2024/25, made it four defeats in those six games.

Juventus have lost only three of their last 15 matches against French teams (W8 D4) although a 1-1 draw at LOSC Lille in the most recent, on Matchday 4 last season, made it one win in the last five (D2 L2).

Monaco

This is Monaco's 11th appearance in the Champions League proper – last season was their first since 2018/19.

The French club finished 17th in the 2024/25 league phase (W4 D1 L3) before being eliminated by Benfica in the knockout phase play-offs (0-1 h, 3-3 a).

Juventus

Juventus are making their 25th appearance in the Champions League proper – extending their Italian record.

The Bianconeri were 20th in last season's league phase (W3 D3 L2), losing to PSV Eindhoven in the knockout phase play-offs.

Key stats

Monaco midfielder Paul Pogba had two spells at Juventus earlier in his career, scoring 34 goals in 190 games, while Denis Zakaria made 15 appearances for the Bianconeri in two seasons before a transfer to Monaco in summer 2023.

A 6-1 defeat at Real Madrid on Matchday 7 was the first time Monaco had lost a European game by more than four goals.

The French club have won only two of their last ten Champions League matches (D4 L4).

However, Monaco have lost only one of their last seven home Champions League matches at this stage (W4 D2) and are unbeaten at home in this season's league phase (W1 D2), keeping clean sheets in their last two matches.

A 2-0 home win against Benfica on Matchday 7 means Juventus have won three successive Champions League matches for the first time since recording five victories in a row in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 editions.

Juve have lost only one of their last seven away Champions League group stage/league phase games (W2 D4).

Weston McKennie has scored in Juve's last three Champions League matches; no American has found the net in four successive matches in the competition proper.
