Champions League Fantasy Football: The Scout squad for Matchday 10

After unlimited transfers for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off first legs, managers on UCL Fantasy – presented by PlayStation – can play their Wildcard for the return fixtures. The Scout has opted to include Kylian Mbappé, Julián Alvarez and Désiré Doué in the squad for the return, with 14 of the 15 players selected representing sides whose sides were victorious in the first legs.

A reminder for Fantasy managers that there are also unlimited free transfers before the round of 16 first legs on Matchday 11, so all the attention can be focused on this week's fixtures, with two free transfers for Matchday 10.

Goalkeepers

Both goalkeepers selected have home fixtures and first-leg advantages to defend in this week's return. Newcastle welcome Qarabağ having won 6-1 in Azerbaijan last week; the Magpies have kept clean sheets in winning their last three home Champions League matches while their visitors have scored only one goal in their five games in England, conceding 19, making Nick Pope (€5.0m) a strong selection.

On Wednesday Real Madrid face Benfica leading 1-0 after the opening game in Lisbon. The Portuguese side have failed to score in four of their last five away Champions League matches, qualifying included, so Thibaut Courtois (€6.1m) is the pick for another clean sheet.

Defenders

Newcastle's Dan Burn (€5.0m) has picked up 51 Fantasy points this season, 16 of them from his last two appearances – including seven in Azerbaijan. Paris pair Nuno Mendes (€6.3m) and Willian Pacho (€5.0m) scored a combined five points in a 3-2 first-leg win at Monaco but are still among the top-scoring Fantasy defenders on 59 and 48 points respectively. The French champions have three clean sheets in their last four home games in all competitions.

With Inter facing a 3-1 deficit at home to Bodø/Glimt, the Serie A leaders will need to commit to attack and are likely to rely heavily on Federico Dimarco (€5.5m). The wing-back has 15 assists in 24 Serie A appearances this season, including in his last five appearances. Alejandro Grimaldo (€6.2m) is also included having scored 25 points in last two matches – and is the top scorer among defenders with 72 points – providing an assist in the first-leg victory at Olympiacos.

Qarabağ v Newcastle: Watch Anthony Gordon's four goals

Midfielders

There is another Paris double-up in midfield, with Désiré Doué (€7.9m) included after coming off the bench to deliver 19 Fantasy points in the first leg thanks to two goals and an assist, while Vitinha (€7.3m) may have scored only one point at Monaco but has 36 from four home Champions League matches this season.

It may seem strange to overlook Anthony Gordon given his 27 Fantasy points in the first leg but, with Newcastle holding a five-goal cushion, the winger is a rotation risk so team-mate Harvey Barnes (€6.9m), who is expected to start, is chosen instead. Ademola Lookman (€7.0m) has four goals and two assists in his first six appearances for Atlético de Madrid, scoring in last week's 3-3 draw at Club Brugge, while Vinícius Júnior (€9.5m) has 29 Fantasy points in his last three Champions League games, including a first-leg winner at Benfica.

Patrik Schick reaction to Leverkusen's win at Olympiacos

Forwards

Vinícius' Real Madrid team-mate Kylian Mbappé (€11.0m) has three double-figure Fantasy returns from his last four matches, and returned five points at Benfica last week. Julián Alvarez (€9.1m) recorded seven points at Club Brugge and has two goals and an assist in his last two starts in all competitions, scoring in Belgium.

With Lautaro Martínez sidelined by injury and Ousmane Dembélé a significant injury doubt, the third forward spot goes to Patrik Schick (€7.0m), who two first-leg goals fired Leverkusen to a 2-0 win at Olympiacos. The Czech forward has four goals in his last five appearances in all competitions.
