Coach: İsmail Kartal

İsmail Kartal made more than 250 Fenerbahçe appearances during his playing days and started a fourth spell as head coach of the Turkish club in June. “We have very special memories together from the past,” he said upon taking charge.

Key player: N'Golo Kanté

A Champions League winner with Chelsea in 2021, the France midfield dynamo moved to Türkiye in February 2026. Kanté is still a fearsome competitor at 35, breaking up opposition moves and launching attacks. As the famous internet meme goes: "70% of the planet is covered by water and the rest by N'Golo Kanté."

Big summer signing: Romelu Lukaku

One of the all-time leading scorers in men’s international football, Lukaku has been similarly prolific with the eight clubs he has represented before arriving in Istanbul this summer. The move is a homecoming of sorts as the Belgian striker explained upon his unveiling: “It is an emotional moment to be going back to Türkiye where I lived as a young kid, where I discovered the professional world as a toddler with my dad.”

One to watch: Dorgeles Nene

Entering his second season with Fenerbahçe, Mali international Dorgeles Nene does not yet have the history of others in the Fenerbahçe attack, but is a force to be reckoned with nonetheless. The diminutive winger is a skilled creator as well as finisher, supplying seven assists to go along with ten league goals in his first season.

Fenerbahçe's 2025/26 season

Fenerbahçe moved on from José Mourinho in August and had interim coaches either side of Domenico Tedesco’s tenure (September to April) and finished as runners-up in Türkiye. They reached the knockout phase of the Europa League but lost to Nottingham Forest in the play-offs.

What is Fenerbahçe's best Champions League finish?

Supporters will fondly remember Fenerbahçe's thrilling journey to the 2007/08 quarter-finals, where they beat teams like Inter, PSV and Sevilla on the way before being narrowly defeated 3-2 on aggregate by Chelsea.
