Coach: Cristian Chivu
An Inter defender from 2007 to 2014, and a Champions League winner under José Mourinho in 2009/10, former Romania defender Chivu worked in Inter's youth department before returning to the club as senior coach in 2025 following a brief spell in charge of Parma. His first season in charge ended with the Nerazzurri winning their 21st Serie A title.
Key player: Lautaro Martínez
Renowned for his relentless work rate, intelligent positioning and ice-cool finishing, captain Martínez is the leader of this team. The Argentina forward has scored more than 20 goals in each of his last five campaigns and helped Inter to reach the Champions League final in 2022/23 and 2024/25.
Big summer signing: John Stones
Now 32, the centre-back made his name with Everton before switching to Manchester City in 2016. In the following ten years, he won countless trophies under Pep Guardiola, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the 2022/23 Champions League. A two-time EURO runner-up, he is approaching 100 caps for England following their World Cup campaign.
One to watch: Pio Esposito
After two seasons on loan with Spezia in Serie B, physically imposing striker Esposito broke through last term with Inter, whose academy he joined in 2014. Nine Champions League appearances yielded two goals and two assists, while 39 domestic appearances and eight goals marked his contribution to Inter's double. An Under-19 EURO winner in 2024, Esposito became a full Italian international in September 2025.
Inter's 2025/26 season
Inter's elimination by Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League knockout phase play-offs was a shock, but they rallied to win the Coppa Italia and Serie A in Cristian Chivu's first season in charge.
