Coach: Sebastian Hoeness
The son of Dieter Hoeness, and nephew of fellow Bayern great Uli Hoeness, Sebastian Hoeness found his calling as a coach, starting out with young players before coaching Bayern’s reserves and then the Hoffenheim first team. Hired in 2023, he helped Stuttgart to return to the Champions League and win the 2024/25 German Cup.
Key player: Deniz Undav
Prolific at Havelse, Meppen and Union SG prior to joining Stuttgart from Brighton, the 30-year-old has passed 50 goals across his three campaigns at the club, with a career-high 19 in the league last term. A World Cup shot with Germany and new contract at Stuttgart were the result of another goal-laden season.
Big summer signing: Bilal El Khannouss
The 22-year-old schemer was picked up, initially on loan, from Leicester in summer 2024 and the switch was made permanent this summer. A regular for Morocco over the past four years, he shone in the Europa League last season with five goals and has the vision and passing ability to unlock the meanest of defences.
One to watch: Finn Jeltsch
Jeltsch joined Stuttgart from Nürnberg in February 2025 and quickly made an impact despite being just 19 at the time. The German centre-back made 12 Bundesliga appearances in the remainder of that campaign, nine as a starter, and followed that with up 27 domestic appearances in his first full season and ten in the Europa League.
Stuttgart's 2025/26 season
Stuttgart lost to Porto in the Europa League round of 16, and to irresistible Bayern in the German Cup final, but a fourth-placed Bundesliga finish took them into the league phase of the Champions League.
