Coach: Arda Turan

Capped 100 times as a Türkiye midfielder, Arda Turan shone at Galatasaray and Atleti, and was one of the breakout stars of UEFA EURO 2008. In his first job as a coach, he led Eyüpspor to a sixth-placed finish in the Turkish league, and then signed for Shakhtar in May 2025.

Key player: Pedrinho

Brazilian midfielder Pedrinho was a key figure as Shakhtar topped the possession charts in last season’s Conference League. At 28 years old he is one of the more senior players in Arda Turan’s young squad and does not shy away from the responsibility that comes with that. “I always try to take on the role of a leader,” he said in a 2025 interview.

Big summer signing: Bruninho

Shakhtar added yet another exciting Brazilian talent to their ranks in the form of 18-year-old Bruninho this summer. The teenage dynamo made nine appearances in Brazil’s top flight before his August move to Shakhtar and enjoyed his first couple of international appearances with Brazil’s Under-20s in March, scoring twice and assisting once on debut.

One to watch: Kauã Elias

A February 2025 arrival from Fluminense, Kauã Elias helped Shakhtar reach the Conference League semi-finals in his first full season. Far from the first exciting Brazilian forward to come through Shakhtar’s doors, Kauã Elias has ambitions of being the best. Asked about the club-record 128 goals of Luiz Adriano, the young striker responded: “I want to score at least one more than him over the course of my career at Shakhtar.”
