Coach: Manuel Pellegrini

A central defender with Universidade de Chile from 1973-86, Pellegrini came to Europe to become Villarreal coach in 2004, then coached Real Madrid and Málaga before leading Man City to the 2013/14 Premier League title. In charge at Real Betis since 2020, he took the Seville side to the 2024/25 Conference League final.

Key player: Antony

A player with a penchant for the spectacular, Brazilian winger Antony has wowed in two historic European campaigns with Real Betis. Full-backs will do well to note his preference for cutting in on his left foot from the right, but stopping it will be another matter – four Conference League goals in 2025 and six in the Europa League last term showing his clinical edge.

Big summer signing: Fran García

Left-back Fran García was part of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League in 2024, making four appearances across the campaign, though he was an unused substitute in the final. The 27-year-old has featured a further 16 times in the competition since.

One to watch: Abde Ezzalzouli

Antony’s usual partner on the wings, Ezzalzouli is playing his first season in the Champions League. The Morocco international surpassed 100 Real Betis appearances last term while enjoying his most prolific campaign yet – hauling in ten league goals and nine assists. Look out for mazy dribbles on the pitch and a relentless mindset off it. “I like criticism so I can shut them up,” the winger has said.
