Coach: Francesco Farioli
The Italian studied philosophy at the University of Florence, before switching to sports science and then a career as a goalkeeping coach, and he worked under Roberto De Zerbi in this capacity at Benevento and Sassuolo. After taking charge at Fatih Karagümrük, Alanyaspor and Nice, he coached Ajax in 2024/25 and then took the Porto job in July 2025.
Key player: Diogo Costa
Penalty saves have become a calling card for Diogo Costa since he memorably saved three penalties in a single shoot-out at EURO 2024, but the Porto goalkeeper is an all-round force. That much was clear in Porto’s title-winning league campaign last term, his 21 clean sheets setting a new record in the division.
Big summer signing: Jakub Kiwior
Kiwior completed a permanent move to Porto this summer after spending the 2025/26 season on loan from Arsenal. The Poland centre-back made 26 league appearances and eight in the Europa League during a strong first campaign.
One to watch: Victor Froholdt
When aged 19, Froholdt was named the Portuguese league’s Player of the Month, Young player of the Month and Midfielder of the Month within weeks of his arrival from Copenhagen in 2025. Generally operating as a right-sided central midfielder, the tall Danish international is an excellent box-to-box midfielder.
Porto's 2025/26 season
Farioli’s maiden season was superb, Porto kicking off with 18 wins and a draw from their first 19 league games, and finishing six points clear at the top of the table, having also reached the Europa League last eight.
What is Porto's best Champions League finish?
Porto are two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup/Champions League. Their first title was claimed in the 1986/87 season, their most recent in 2003/04.

Under José Mourinho, Porto won the 2003/04 Champions League; no side from outside Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues has reached the final since.
