One of the shoot-out scorers in United’s 2007/08 Champions League final victory against Chelsea, former midfielder Carrick worked under José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær at the club and returned as temporary manager in 2025/26, earning a long-term contract after he led his side to a third-placed finish.
