Wiese on his way

Werder Bremen have secured the future services of Tim Wiese from 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer.

UEFA Champions League contenders Werder Bremen have secured the future services of Tim Wiese from 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, currently sidelined with a cruciate knee injury, will join Bremen for the start of the 2005/06 campaign.

Summer switch
Wiese, who is rated as one of the best young goalkeepers in Germany, agreed a three-year-contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions on Sunday. "Tim is exactly the kind of player we were looking for," said Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs. "He is German, he is young, but he is already experienced. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the country."

'Leading club'
Wiese, who played for Germany at last summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship, said: "I have always wanted to play for one of the leading clubs in Germany and Bremen are the perfect club to join. They have got a great side and I am proud that I will be part of the squad."
