Injured Pizarro to miss Chelsea tie

FC Bayern München striker Claudio Pizarro will miss Wednesday's quarter-final first leg with Chelsea FC.

FC Bayern München striker Claudio Pizarro will miss Wednesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie against Chelsea FC after picking up a thigh injury in Bayern's 3-0 win away to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Muscle injury
The Peruvian international, who was substituted after only six minutes of Saturday's match, is also considered doubtful for the return leg at the Olympiastadion on 12 April.

'Enough depth'
Bayern's medical staff estimate the striker will be sidelined for ten to 12 days, but coach Felix Magath believes his side will not be unduly troubled by the 26-year-old's absence. "The injury is obviously a blow but we have got enough depth in the squad and should be able to cope without him," Magath said.

Scholl return
In the absence of Pizarro, who scored twice in Bayern's 3-1 first-leg victory over Arsenal FC in the Round of 16, Magath is likely to bring in José Paolo Guerrero to partner Roy Makaay up front. The return of attacking midfield player Mehmet Scholl to the side after injury on Saturday gives the coach a further option, should he decide to play with just one striker at Stamford Bridge.
