Ancelotti praise for memorable Milan

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed a performance to remember after his team defeated FC Bayern München 4-1 to move into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction after a 4-1 home victory against FC Bayern München took his side into the last eight of the UEFA Champions League in considerable style. Two goals from Filippo Inzaghi, the second his 50th in UEFA club competition, along with efforts from Andriy Shevchenko and Kaká, rounded off a 5-2 aggregate triumph that rendered Valérien Ismaël's strike scant consolation for the German champions.

Carlo Ancelotti, Milan coach
We suffered a bit after their goal but the team were always confident. We will remember this performance for a long time because we played very well. Inzaghi had a great game, not only because he scored twice, but also because of his work-rate for the team. I took him off only because he was extremely tired after running for every ball, but he wasn't alone, it was a terrific display by the whole side. At the moment we are in very good form. Our attackers look like scoring in every game and we are very solid both in midfield and defence. We did not defend well when Bayern scored, but it was the only bad spot in 90 otherwise perfect minutes, so I cannot complain. We have to keep this physical and mental strength going until the end of the competition. The Champions League is a very difficult tournament, but of last season's semi-finalists, only Milan are still in the competition. It is a great achievement and we are really proud.

Felix Magath, Bayern coach
Obviously, I was expecting a different kind of game. We were a bit too nervous in the beginning, but despite conceding two goals, we reacted very well afterwards. We managed to score and created several chances to equalise, but Milan's third goal early in the second half was a big blow to our morale and killed the tie. I tried everything to turn the game back in our favour, but against a side like Milan, defeat is always possible, especially against the Milan team we faced tonight. It was difficult to play our usual football, especially after their early goal, but we have to learn to deal with these situations because it is normal to have difficult spells in a match like this, in a packed stadium. My only regret is that we could not get a better result in the first leg, when I felt we deserved better.
