Four-game reign
The match was only Vutsov's fourth in charge of Levski and the first European tie of his career having been appointed two games before the end of last season. But after a surprise 1-0 loss in Saturday's league opener against PFC Vihren Sandanski and today's similar defeat by the Belarussian champions – captain Georgi Ivanov missing penalties in both games with the scores level – Vutsov decided to step down and his resignation was accepted by club president Todor Batkov. Former Levski midfielder Emil Velev has been named as caretaker coach. The return match with BATE is on 27 August.
