'The right move'
The 25-year-old, who is one of Europe's most prized defenders, has extended his existing deal until 2007. "I'm very happy with that," he said. The player's agent, Christophe Henrotay, added: "We thought it would be good for Daniel to stay a little longer because Marseille are going to play in the Champions League and want to win the championship. He likes the manager Alain Perrin, the manager likes him, and this is the right move."
Key player
Van Buyten joined Marseille from R. Standard de Liège in June 2001, and played a key role as the club finished third in the First Division last season.
