Jónsson double inspires Danes

FC København 3-1 FC Lokomotivi Tbilisi Todi Jónsson powers FC København to victory.

FC København 3-1 FC Lokomotivi Tbilisi
FC København fought back from a goal down to clinch a well-earned victory over FC Lokomotivi Tbilisi in the first leg of their UEFA Cup qualifying-round tie in Denmark tonight.

Danish domination
The Danes dominated proceedings for virtually the whole 90 minutes against their Georgian opponents, who elected to put seven men behind the ball for long spells.

Surprise lead
However, Lokomotiv stunned the Danes by taking the lead after just nine minutes when Zaza Janashia found the net with a great shot on the turn from just outside the penalty area. But København were on level terms four minutes before the break courtesy of Todi Jónsson, who scored with a well-struck left-foot shot after receiving captain Christian Lonstrup's pass.

Midfield maestro
The Lions then took the lead in the first minute of the second half, Thomas Roll planting a header into the far corner after a right-wing cross from Lonstrup. The goal seemed to demoralise Lokomotivi and home-team playmaker Erik Mykland took charge in midfield. It was his probing that helped lead to the third goal when right-back Tomas Antonelius played in Jónsson to fire in his second of the match.
