Lech Poznan have qualified for the UEFA Cup after winning the Polish Cup for the fourth time in their history, holding on to record a 2-1 aggregate win over two legs against Legia Warszawa.
Exciting second leg
Piotr Reiss’ two goals in the first match in Poznan proved decisive as Legia pushed them all the way during an exciting second-leg game in front of 15,000 fans in Warsaw. Piotr Wlodarczyk scored for Legia from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after Lech defender Zbigniew Wojcik had handled the ball, but Lech defended stoutly to deny Legia an equalising goal.
New format
The Polish Football Federation (PZPN) has decided to change the format of the cup next season with eight groups of four teams competing in a preliminary round before the top two teams from each group move on to the next round.
